Title: Why You Should Care About Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) - An Introduction to MEV & Some of the Latest Open Questions Around the Topic (link to video-recording; link to slides)
Speaker: Alex Obadia and Quintus Kilbourn, FlashBots
Abstract: This talk will introduce the audience to maximal extractable value (mev), a concept defined in 2019 in the seminal paper Flashboys 2.0 by Daian et. al.. MEV is now a bustling new multidisciplinary research field and a $1b+ industry on Ethereum. The speaker will be coming back from the annual Ethereum Developer Conference, Devcon 6. Reporting back from the 'frontlines', Alex will introduce the audience to the concept of Maximal Extractable Value, link its relevance to existing research areas and phenomenons the audience is likely familiar with, and (briefly) introduce some of the latest topics the industry will have been discussing at the conference.
Bio: Alex Obadia is a founding steward & researcher at Flashbots. Quintus Kilbourn is a researcher at Flashbots. Flashbots (https://flashbots.net) is an r&d organization working to mitigate the negative externalities of MEV on Ethereum & other blockchains. Some of the research Alex and Quintus have worked on at Flashbots includes exploring MEV in proof-of-stake Ethereum, formalizing cross-domain MEV and studying how exclusive orderflow affects Ethereum blockspace markets.
